Newsflash: Amethysts Are Uncertain of God’s Existence

Some days it is a severe undertatement to say that I am just astounded by the sheer quantity and quality of stupidity that surrounds me.

First of all, an assistant professor named Lydia Hartunian said that a misconception about atheists is that people think they don’t believe in God.  She said that, actually, atheists are uncertain about whether or not there is a God.

Woah.  Ms. Hartunian, people who are not certain of the existence of God are called agnostics.  And, in fact, people who do not believe there is a God are called atheists.  It is you who are confused.  Astoundingly so, for an academic person.

Second, in the news story below which reports this fact, the news writer uses the wrong word and instead of saying “atheists” says “amethysts.”  Really, really, really unbelievable.

I guess my third problem with this atheist “movement” is the fact that she seems to be trying to make a religion out of not believing in God.  I myself am not a religious person, but I’m not about to join a movement of people who feel the same way about it.  That would kind of defeat the point.

Here is the news story, as posted on the KCCI news site:
Amethysts Uncertain of God’s Existence Look for the wrong word within the body of the story (it’s not long).

UPDATE:  The news site has now corrected its error.

Seattle Space Needle In A Snowflake

I happened upon a website that had a little application on it where you could use virtual scissors to make a virtual snowflake.  So I just cut randomly, here and there, on a virtual, folded piece of paper.  And here is the result when it was opened.  How did I wind up making a snowflake with the Space Needle as its main feature?  I couldn’t do that if I tried to do it on purpose.  Crazy.  Here it is:

Duran Duran Forced To Cancel/Reschedule 3 Broadway Concerts Due To Stagehand / Writers Strike

Duran Duran were forced to cancel and/or reschedule the final 3 performances of their history-making 2 week stint on Broadway, according to official sources.  The stagehands of Local One are striking in support of the writers strike, making it impossible to go on with the Broadway show.

The band are “very disappointed” and working hard to secure another venue for their final 3 shows.  This is especially disappointing, as these were final 3 shows leading up to the release of their newest album “Red Carpet Massacre” on November 13th.  Fans are extremely disappointed as well, many coming from all over the country and all over the world to see one of these Broadway performances.

Random Thoughts On A Friday Night

Totally random…..

There is roast slow-cooking in a crock pot in the kitchen - and it’s starting to smell really good.

I bought a take-and-bake French baguette so long that it will probably not fit in my oven.  It certainly won’t fit on any pan I own.  I’m not sure what I was thinking except that it looked really good.  I will have to halve it before I bake it.  Then Charlie and I will have it with our roast tomorrow.  :)
Currently Reading:  A Dark Adapted Eye - I’m very early on and not sure if I like it yet or not.  Ruth Rendell (writing under the name Barbara Vine, in this case) tends to dance maddeningly around her point.  I’m hoping I will get used to her writing style, because this is supposed to be a very good story.  We’ll see.

I have ‘Fracture’ from Netflix to watch.  I might do that instead of reading tonight.  I’m not sure I can concentrate on a book just now.

I miss being able to switch templates for my blog on a whim, like I could on Diary-X.  I do love WordPress, but if I switch my template, it gets switched for ALL my entries.  I liked being able to change templates PER entry.  Oh well, maybe that will be an option in the near future.

What else?  Nothing really.  What a boring entry.  I do have things going on in my life, but I guess this is a rare moment of “calm” and I am just enjoying being “quiet” for awhile.

So I think I will.  Good night.  :)

A woman tried to sell her breast milk in a classified ad in This Newspaper.  Apparently she has been pumping breast milk for awhile, but her baby won’t drink from a bottle.  She doesn’t want it to go to waste, so she’s selling it for $200.  All of the appropriate health warnings are in the newspaper article if you follow that link above.  I just have to say yee-ish!!!!!
