I Think I Got The Bends
I think I almost got the bends today. I went to lunch with a client at the Columbia Tower in Seattle, and his office is above the 70th floor. Call me a yokel if you like, but 70TH FLOOR! I have actually never been higher than maybe about 40 stories high in a man-made structure.
Anyway, we went to lunch at the top of the tower, which is on the 75th floor, and I forgot my phone at the concierge desk when they were validating my parking. So after saying good-bye to my client, I went from the 75th to the 40th floor. Then got out and went from the 40th floor to the Lobby. It was at this point I realized I forgot my phone.
So then I went back up to the 40th floor on the same elevator I’d just come down in. It was at this point I started feeling like I might lose my lunch. Then back up to the 75th floor. Once I had my phone, I had to go back down 75 floors again to the Lobby, then down 5 floors to the floor I parked on in the parking garage.
I’m pretty sure I was all the way back to Redmond before I started getting any reassurance that I was going to be able to keep my lunch! That was definitely some lingering nausea!
Other than that, it was a great experience. Doing the work that I do (mostly online via e-mail), I very rarely get to actually meet the people I do work for. So this was a real treat. This client of mine is a great Seattle Criminal Defense Lawyer with a very unique outlook and a great way of going about his profession. I work on his website regularly and his blogs occasionally, and he really is one of my favorite clients.
Anyway, I told my sister and a friend about having lunch up there today and they both said, “Oh yeah, I’ve been up there for….” Fill in the blank…. Oh well, now I’ve been up there as well.
And it was very interesting/odd to look DOWN on the Space Needle. (I’m such a bumpkin.)
Here’s A Riddle For You
What do you call 9 boxes packed and sitting by the front door?
A GOOD START!
The packing has been started. The lease papers have been signed (Donna found a nice townhome for me already!). The utilities have been set up. The contract with the movers has been signed. The route has been planned!
There’s still so much to do, though. I have lot’s of work, which is good. But it has to be juggled with making hotel reservations, finishing packing, getting Charlie finished up at school, etc.
I leave here in 17 days! Oh my gosh! I’m freaking out! LOL Not really. But I basically have to be working and moving and doing every minute I am awake. That’s really not that much different than normal life. Except that I occasionally have time to watch a rented movie a couple of times a week. I won’t be doing that for awhile now.
Which reminds me, I need to suspend NetFlix and TiVo, cancel my utilities here, inform Charlie’s school we’re leaving…..
Yeah, I don’t have time to be blogging just now! Later!
Going Back To Seattle - It’s Official!
Everything is finally final and nailed down. I’ve been 80% sure I was leaving Iowa May 31st to move back to Seattle. Now everything is taken care of, and it’s happening! In 63-1/2 days, Charlie and I will be driving out of West Des Moines and back to Seattle.
Seattle is just “home.” I’ve tried to move back to Iowa a couple of times, but I just lived too long on the West coast and prefer the weather, the area, the lifestyle, etc. I really miss my sister and brother-in-law and my friends back there. And I’ve detested the horror show that is “winter in Iowa.”
Anyway, not to get all negative in a happy post, all I have to say is, “Yay! I’m coming home!” ![]()
Seattle Space Needle In A Snowflake
I happened upon a website that had a little application on it where you could use virtual scissors to make a virtual snowflake. So I just cut randomly, here and there, on a virtual, folded piece of paper. And here is the result when it was opened. How did I wind up making a snowflake with the Space Needle as its main feature? I couldn’t do that if I tried to do it on purpose. Crazy. Here it is:
